NISAOPT family of programs was designed for optimum structural design.Three programs make up the family, STROPT, SHAPE, and SECOPT. They arecompatible with the finite-element analysis program NISA II.STROPT is a general-purpose package for optimum design of structures withprescribed geometry. It minimizes material volume, mass, and weight ofstructures by changing thicknesses and cross-sectional dimensions.Capabilities include optimum design for multiple-load cases andassociated boundary conditions, optimization algorithms, designsensitivity analysis methods, and a finite-element library that includescomposites.SHAPE is a shape-optimizing design program for solid, shell, or plane-stress continuum structures. The process can create new boundaries asappropriate by removing material from inside the continuum.SECOPT is a program for finding the dimensions of a beam section thatminimize the cross-sectional area. The optimum dimensions satisfyconstraints on section properties and those imposed by code requirementsor practical considerations.
